Notes

MAPC winter meeting:
Come enjoy lightning presentations on the successes of our three-year, $4 million Sustainable Communities grant. Speakers will feature MAPC's recent work doing transportation planning in Quincy, agriculture work in the MAGIC subregion, clean energy work in Arlington, managing neighborhood change in the city of Somerville, and planning for the future of Salem Point.

Bikes Not Bombs will be releasing a documentary about our international partner, Ability Bikes, at the Ride Studio Cafe in Lexington on Thursday, March 6th from 6-8pm. Derek McIntire, a shop employee, traveled to Ghana last November to teach advanced mechanics lessons to the worker-owners at Ability Bikes. In the process, he filmed local residents and other folks involved with Ability Bikes to capture the project's strengths and impacts. Please join us to watch the 10-minute film, followed by discussion and Q&A with Derek and our Intentional Programs team. Social hour is from 6-7pm, and the film screening begins at 7pm sharp. Beer and snacks will be served. Ride Studio Cafe is located at 1720 Massachusetts Ave Lexington, MA 02420. Contact gro.sbmobtonsekib|acire#gro.sbmobtonsekib|acire for more information.

Concerns about (tourist) cycle tracks in Boston
http://connecthistoric-boston.org/wp-content/uploads/Commercial-Presentation_2014-1-28_as-presented.pdf

It seems like there are many instances where a separated (by a barrier like
a curb) cycle-track is a terrible solution, but that's what is being done
for (at least some of) this major bicycle infrastructure project. In this
presentation, see slides 22 and 27 for details.

The motion was made to approve the application for the special permit with two conditions. First, that the owners implement the Great Road traffic plan previously approved by the Mass DOT based on the restaurant use with a two way turning lane. Additionally, that the owners agree to install pavement markings at the entrance to aid drivers in determining travel lanes and flow direction. The owners indicated acceptance of the two conditions. The motion was approved (4-1). The special permit will be issued following the standard twenty-day comment period.
